DHK provided architectural design services as a sub-consultant member of the consortium that designed, built, operates and maintains the AirTrain transportation system at the JFK airport. This project for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey connects the airport’s eight terminals with each other and connects the airport with the Long Island Rail Road at Jamaica Station and the NYCT system at the Howard Beach and Sutphin Boulevard stations. DHK provided conceptual designs for the elevated guideway and for the new station at Howard Beach, Queens. Responsibilities included design tasks and development of initial phasing schedules to establish the feasibility of replacing the existing NYCT station without disrupting the operation of the transit system.
